Welcome

This site is about anthropology and cultural exchange between Western-Europe and West-Africa, especially Casamance, the southern province of Senegal. Religious beliefs still play a dominant role in african every day life whereas in the western world religious practices seem to vanish. One may consider this tendency as a quite paradoxical turn of missionary activities in Casamance that strengthened at least since 1888 when France bought the province from the former portuguese colonists.

"Catholic church in Europe resents a serious crises" a Joola priest who knows well several european countries stated. And on the other hand german friends claimed: "It's now up to black priests from Africa to be on mission in Europe."

Contributions on this site try to examine wether this first appreciation will reveal to be true or on the contrary has to be corrected.
